There have been a number of proposed apocalypse date in the last few decades. Y2K and 2012 were two of the most popular examples. Lately, a new date has been buzzing, July 27.
Christian conspiracy theorists are proposing this date marks the beginning of the end times foretold in the bible. It marks the day that the moon will enter a full eclipse, and will take on a dark red hue through an effect called Raleigh Scattering, commonly referred to as a hunter’s moon or a blood moon. It also marks the date that Mars will be the closest to Earth is has been in the last 15 years. This will make the planet brighter and more visible than usual.
Indiana Pastor Paul Begley claims that the two events coinciding is a sign from above, but not the end times.
“July 27 is not the end of the world. I repeat it’s not the end of the world but certainly, the Bible says there will be signs in the sun and in the moon and in the stars.”
Instead, Begley believes that we are already in the end times and that this is a sign that something of biblical proportions is coming soon. He even suspects the second coming of Jesus.
“I’m not upset, I’m just telling you if you look at things from a Biblical perspective, in the Bible Jesus said when all of these things are happening ‘then shall they see the son of man coming in a cloud with great power and glory.”
Currently, there is no scientific evidence to support that this will be anything over than another lunar eclipse. Though I suppose we’ll find out soon enough.
